BC Hydro’s Power Smart Solar & Battery Rebates, introduced July 23, 2024, offer households in British Columbia up to $5,000 for solar panels and an additional $5,000 for battery storage, helping you save up to $10,000 total. Here’s how it works:
-
Solar panel rebate: $1,000 per kilowatt (kW) of installed photovoltaic capacity, up to a maximum of $5,000, capped at 50% of total installation cost (equipment + labour).
-
Battery storage rebate: $500 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) of installed capacity, up to $5,000, also capped at 50% of total battery project costs; minimum system size applies (generally 5 kWh).
-
Eligible customers include residential homeowners connected to BC Hydro; small businesses and multi-unit buildings may qualify for higher incentive levels, up to $50,000 or even $150,000 for social housing and Indigenous communities.
How to Apply: Submit your project application through BC Hydro’s Self Generation (net‑metering) program before starting installation. Applications are processed on a first‑come, first‑served basis; early application is encouraged.
